CONFIDANT


Crime victim has the right to be accompanied by a confidant to acts of criminal proceedings and to provide explanation.

A confidant can be a person of victim’s choice having legal capacity. Confidant provides the victim with much needed support, especially psychological. A confidant may also be the victim’s lawyer. A person who plays a part of a defendant, attorney, witness, legal expert or interpreter may not be a confidant at the same time. 

Confidant accompanies the victim, s/he serves as the victim’s “eyes and ears”, the representative can also act on victim’s behalf, therefore serve as the victim’s “mouth” as well.
